CPP Games was working on the Project Nova, the alpha version was ready to be presented to players. But, as the blog post on their website says, they were not happy with it. They decided to cancel the project and go back to the drawing board and work on the future experiences for their players.
They were really going after the original FPS experience within the EVE Online universe. I’m disappointed that this project won’t see the light of day, but they might come up with something more unique and better. Player research sessions with external players didn’t go well.
Project Nova will continue to evolve and the developers are not in a rush to release it. I think this is the correct approach for both developers and players. First impression is the long lasting impression, so it should be constructed to be nothing short of amazing.
Here is how they concluded the blog post:
“Project Nova continues to evolve and we remain committed to delivering a high-quality team-based shooter experience to EVE Online fans, while exploring new and exciting opportunities to integrate the two games. CCP is in no rush to release Project Nova until we’re satisfied it provides a rock-solid gameplay experience and visuals to match.”
Also take a look at the Project nova pre-alpha version. There is no alpha version coming so this is it. Love it or hate it. It’s always sad to see when game projects die but it is also very hard to make a game.
“First 90% of the game development is a lot harder than second 90%” Tim Sweeney Twitter account. Not sure if he came up with this or not. But her is the CEO of Epic Games, and it’s true. It’s not easy and a lot of people have to work very hard to create something great.
