Self-publishing is a great way to publish games for indie developers. But not everyone can do it. The developer of Stardew Valley Eric Barone (aka ConcernedApe) is going to self-publish his game on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and PS Vita (yes, vita still gets some games).
This is what he stated on his developer blog:
“I think self-publishing is the end-goal of most indie developers, and I’m happy to be in a place where that’s possible!”
This change will start from December 14th (2018). We greatly admire the ability of Stardew Valley developer to go this route. This is the ultimate connection in between the game developer and game player. This make the game have a personal touch and lets player connect to the creator rather than a publisher. Making a game available on even more platforms is also a great challenge, and this guy is doing it. His game looks great and plays great. It has a retro feel to it, it simply feels inviting to play to anyone who’s been playing games before. Colors are picked carefully so it’s easy on the eyes and lets players experience their adventure in a classic way, when imagination did as much as the graphics on the screen.
